The segment entitled “The Hellenic National Audiovisual Archive presents...” inaugurates the presence of the Hellenic National Audiovisual Archives (HeNAA), from this year onwards, at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. This year’s segment includes a short presentation of the HeNAA’s main aspects and aims, as well as the screening of four documentaries which were recently digitalized and which, though directed by well-known filmmakers, remain relatively unknown. The first concerns the Manakia brothers, the pioneers of Greek cinema. Their films are classified among the very first audiovisual records of Balkan reality. The other three films, all filmed in the early sixties, are good examples of a highly demanding Greek documentary that was underway during a period when the genre was evolving on an international scale.
