Neo Yoruba People
Egli, Thursday, March 19, 2009
The 11th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival–Images of the 21st Century, one of the annual events of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, is hosting an extraordinary afro jazz musical group in a concert that will complement the Festival’s tribute to African documentaries. The multiethnic band blends African rhythms, soul themes and jazz melodies and structures, creating its own original sound. The public is invited to join Neo Yoruba People in a wild party. The band was formed in November 2008, on an initiative by composer and singer Adedeji Adetayo from Nigeria. Adetayo brought together five musicians from different countries – Greece’s Andreas Thermos, Vangelis Stefanopoulos and Vassilis Kalistridis, Cuban Manual Orza and Mexican Xavier Rico, creating an ethnic mix of talent, jazz sounds and African temperament. The six musicians joined forces in Athens, where they began doing gigs. Their concert on the occasion of the 11thThessaloniki Documentary Festival is the first time Neo Yoruba People will be appearing in Thessaloniki.
