Μinorities

The first transgender New York fire fighter, the Roma survivors of the Holocaust, the odyssey of Kurdish refugees, the persecution of the Sami people, a lesbian refugee from Syria. This year, in the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival’s 19th edition, minorities from all over the world that are enduring, asserting their rights and fighting for equal opportunities and a better future are the protagonists of the “Minorities” segment. Admission is free for all festival goers. From its inception, the Festival has given voice to all those struggling to be heard and has promoted social awareness. “Minorities” comprises five recent documentaries and sheds light on the many different aspects of an issue which has never ceased to be in the spotlight.

1.  A Hole in the Head / Robert Kirchhoff, Slovak Republic-Czech Republic
2.  Kaisa’s Enchanted Forest / Katja Gauriloff, Finland
3.  The Return / Zahavi Sanjavi, Sweden
4.  To Another Life / Laurent Laughlin, Greece
5.  Woman on Fire / Julie Sokolow, USA

The tribute "Minorities" has free admission, and is implemented through the Operational Program “Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning” and co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and national funds.
