Small Adoptions a tribute to the works of Stavros Psyllakis
“Making a documentary film is like an act of adoption. It’s like waking up one morning and finding a baby on your doorstep. It’s up to you to decide what to do: ignore it or adopt it and give it life. This kind of ‘adoption’ takes place with the people and stories we come across, often by chance, in our lives and which shape our films. Then the adventure begins. They share intimate stories with you which slowly build the film. A truthful moment that belongs to you and them in equal measure. But knowing that each time we only tell the truth we can afford to tell.” S.P.

The Chania Film Festival honors the director Stavros Psyllakis by publishing the book Brief Adoptions. The 295-page book, which is rich in photographic and archival material, features 15 texts, exclusively written for the tribute and approaching the director and his journey from different perspectives. Additionally, it contains extensive prose excerpts from six wellknown documentaries of his, interviews and reviews of his work, and a detailed filmography. The book includes pieces by M. Frantzeskakis, R. Manthoulis, Y. Kokkinakos, A. Ardavanis, V. Lekka, K. F. Psyllakis, M. Kranakis, T. Lazaratou, M. Manoussakis, D. Haritos, Y. Zoumboulakis, E. Stefani, M. Virvidakis, N.
